Mustang Monitor: October 7

Greetings one and all,

For your learning benefit and edification, a bit of background on Homecoming.  The concept originated with the ancient Greeks to honor those returning from their global conquests and border defense assignments.  Their return was celebrated with festivities, warmth and gratitude.  The travelers longed to return to their neighborhood, known as their cal or chal; to return was rendered ose or ose.  Thus, we get our transliteration of our Homecoming celebration as caose which we render, CHAOS!  Now you know.

Somewhere in all of this, if we show patience, a football game will break out.  We can hope.  It makes us wonder; if we scheduled Homecoming and didn’t have a football game; would anyone attend?  Indeed this will be a week of activity, fun and fellowship.  AND a multitude of important events in the extracurricular arena as well.  Hang on for the ride; we hope to see you soon and often.  A shout out to the Student Council members and sponsor Melissa Leverett for the tremendous amount of planning and work which goes into making this week a success.  When you see them, give ‘em a big ole THANK YOU!

Best wishes to our girls and boys tennis squads as they play in the district tournament beginning tomorrow.  While Malvern is the host, play will be conducted at the tennis centers at Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State universities.  Play begins at 9:00; tomorrow’s winners will advance to the concluding play on Tuesday.  The top three finishers in both singles and doubles will advance to the 4A state tournament on October 20-21.  Best wishes to all.

On Tuesday, Mustang golfers, Evan Rosenzweig and Nick Pierce will compete in the 4A State tournament at Valley View Country Club in Farmington.  The guys will play a practice round Monday afternoon to prepare for the 9:00 am tee time.  Good luck and safe travels to them as well.

Check the schedule for a host of activities and events which will occur this week.  I emphasize just a few for your benefit:

Wednesday – 2:00 Day, Early Dismissal..  There will be no afterschool care at the high school.

Friday – 2:40 – Homecoming Pep Rally in the Gym.  The court will be presented and significant amounts of pep shall be rallied.

Friday – 4:30 – 6:30 – Drama Club Chili Supper in the Atrium.  Arrive early, get a parking spot and enjoy a chili dinner; all while support the Drama Department.  Each meal is $6.00, tickets available at the door.

Friday – 6:30 – The introduction of the court and crowning of the Homecoming Queen; all will occur at the stadium.

That should get us through the week.  Best wishes to all as you keep up and try to make some sense of it.  If and as we can help, give us a shout.  Till then, be well, be happy and be actively at CAC events.
