CAC to Purchase YMCA in North Little Rock

Posted on Wednesday, January 18, 2012

On Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, Central Arkansas Christian Schools, Inc. announced that the school had reached an agreement with the YMCA of Metropolitan Little Rock to purchase the property at 6101 John F Kennedy Boulevard in North Little Rock. The property was originally home to the Heflin Branch of the YMCA and was closed in March 2011.

The former YMCA property consists of approximately 13 acres at the corner of J.F.K. Blvd. and Kierre Drive in North Little Rock. Current facilities consist of a large, multi-purpose building with gymnasium, ample outdoor recreation space, tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool. CAC is in the process of completing a feasibility study and seeking municipal approval prior to finalizing the purchase. Pending these approvals, the school will move the current Sylvan Hills elementary campus to the new property beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.

In interviews conducted with local media, CAC president Dr. Carter Lambert spoke of opportunities for growth and ways this purchase will enable CAC to greatly expand the ways the school can serve current and future families in the North Little Rock area. One exciting aspect of the new location is the opportunity to begin a summer program for all CAC families beginning in the summer of 2013.

CAC’s announcement received coverage in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette and all four network affiliate TV stations in the Little Rock market. Click below for links to select media coverage of the YMCA purchase announcement:
